The Relationship of Introversion-Extraversion to Intelligence

Abstract
The present study attempted to compare introverts and extraverts based on robinson's hypothesis that introverts tend to do better on the 'verbal' subtests while extraverts tend to do better on the 'performance' subtests and based upon rawlings &
Carnie's prediction that introverts showed be more adversely influenced by time pressure than extraverts, therefore, introverts tend to do better on the Wechsler subtest perfromance without time pressure while extravert tend to do better with
time
pressure.
Junior Eysenck Peronality Questionnaire(JEPQ) and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children administered to 50 middle and high school students living in Seoul, average aged 14.42 years. 12 introverts defined as those subjects with JEPQ
extraversion(E)
scores that were less than 1 quartile score(E<10) and 8 extravert defined that were more than 3 quartile score(E>14), rest of 30 subjects were ambiverts which was intermediate between 1 and 3 quartile score(1014).
The results showed that introverts compared to extraverts and ambiverts tended to have higher scores n the 'verbal' subtests except comprehension subtest, while extraverts compared to introverts and ambiverts tend to have higher scores on the
'performance' subtests. And introverts compared extraverts and ambiverts showed superior performance on the subests without time pressure, while extraverts compared introverts and ambiverts showed superior performance on the subtests with time
pressure.
These results supported the hypotheses.
